My Story
The writing process starts out with coming up with an idea for a story and then deciding what format I want the story to take: do I want to write a screenplay, a novel, a short story, or a poem?

Let's start with poems because they are short and are what I am inspired to write the most.

The poem I wrote called: "Epiphany of a Struggle" came into being because before I wrote the poem I had been taking classes in Computer Science and Earth Science and I had failed some of these courses. I always wanted to be a professional writer but because of my past struggles in college didn't know if I would be willing to commit to taking classes to get a bachelor's degree in Creative Writing and English. I noticed that I was talking more about what I couldn't do than on what I could do. After reading a book by Joseph Campbell called Pathways to Bliss: Mythology and Personal Transformation, I was inspired to write the poem, "Epiphany of a Struggle."

The poem sums up Joseph Campbell's teachings that every person has their own monomyth or personal journey that they must take on their own. Only the individual knows what will make them happy in their own lives. Other people will tell them what they think they should do because of what they are good at or what their talents are. A lot of people get occupations that make them a lot of money but become miserable in their lives. Sometimes life becomes a balancing act of what makes you happy and what can help you live a financially secure life. The bottom line is do what make you as a human being feel alive inside.
